CONSERVATION COLLABORATIONS

Rhino Dream Network Project
Situated just below the Waterburg landscape in South Africa, Thaba Tholo is a 37,000-hectare game farm aiming to leave a legacy of rich fauna, flora, and conservation heritage. It is also renowned for its successful breeding programs, particularly for the East African black rhino, making it home to the largest population of this species outside their historic range.
Support has included an upgraded Operations room, camera traps, solar panels, and more, helping to monitor wildlife on site as well as surrounding areas and reserves.

Phuza Moya Monitoring Phones
The Phuza Moya Private Game Reserve in South Africa is recognized for its engaging wildlife experiences and the opportunity to spot various animals in their natural habitat. The area is known for sightings of lions and cape buffalo among other wildlife, highlighting the reserve's rich biodiversity and commitment to conservation.
Support has included deployment of rugged ranger monitoring devices utilizing software tools such as EarthRanger and SMART.

Namibia Eco Study
In collaboration with various reserves and universities in Namibia, this project consisted of a landscape and wildlife study using camera traps to monitor and document the diversity and behavior of wildlife, evaluate the health and stability of ecosystems, and identify critical habitats and migration patterns.
Support included the donation and deployment of camera traps, solar panels, batteries and SD cards.

GRACE Gorillas Field Monitoring Devices
Within the Tayna Nature Reserve, GRACE Gorillas focuses on conservation efforts for endangered Grauer’s gorillas and their habitats in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
To help facilitate the rehabilitation and the re-wilding of these primates, support has included donations of mobile tracking devices with EarthRanger and SMART for ranger field observations.

Monarch Reserve Camera Traps
The monarch butterfly migration is an extraordinary natural phenomenon closely linked to the oyamel fir forests of Mexico. These forests provide the ideal microclimate for monarchs to survive the winter, offering both shelter and suitable temperatures.
Support has included camera trap donations to help monitor the butterfly populations and also gather essential data on other wildlife, contributing to a better understanding of ecosystem health.

Pantanal Region Camera Traps
The Pantanal region of Brazil is a biodiversity hotspot, hosting an exceptionally rich variety of flora and fauna, including the highest concentration of jaguars in the world. This expansive wetland is crucial for the conservation of the jaguar, a keystone species, influencing the health and stability of the ecosystem.
Camera trap donations, along with our wpsWatch software, help biologists and land managers preserve this special place.

Ranger Support Fund
COVID-19 severely impacted ecotourism across Africa, resulting in a sharp decline in visitors and revenue. This loss of income endangered the livelihoods of many park rangers, diminishing their capacity to protect wildlife and maintain conservation areas. Despite this, ecotourism remains crucial for supporting conservation efforts and local communities.
Together with Global Conservation Corps, WPS helped support rangers and their families until the pandemic subsided and tourism returned.

C-DASS
Specializing in the analysis of conservation and crime data, C-DASS, a South African NGO, plays a pivotal role in combating wildlife crime.
With WPS support, C-DASS develops intelligence reports, profiles of poachers and crime syndicates, and monitors their activities. This information helps initiate proactive operations, such as pre-emptive arrests, to stay ahead of poachers and organized crime.

Mara Triangle Conservancy
The Maasai Mara in Kenya is a critical ecosystem that supports an incredible diversity of wildlife, including the Big Five. It also hosts the annual Great Migration, one of the most spectacular natural events on the planet. Its conservation is vital for maintaining biodiversity, ecological balance, and supporting the livelihoods of local communities through eco-tourism.
WPS support has included: direct funding, GSM cameras, traffic speed monitors, thermal monocles, solar panels, and thermal night driving monitoring devices.

Eastern Cape Restoration
The Eastern Cape in South Africa is crucial for wildlife conservation due to its diverse ecosystems, which include coastal forests, savannahs, and thicket biomes, providing habitats for a variety of species. The development of wildlife corridors in the region is vital for maintaining healthy wildlife genetics and overall ecosystem health.
The implementation of EarthRanger, SMART, camera traps, LoRa gateways, and animal GPS tagged collars has been essential in creating new wildlife corridors in the area.

Sumatran Rhino Sanctuary
Sumatran rhino conservation is crucial because this species is critically endangered, with fewer than 80 individuals remaining, primarily due to habitat loss and poaching. Protecting the Sumatran rhino helps preserve biodiversity and maintain healthy ecosystems in their native Southeast Asian habitats.
In partnership with various Indonesian and international NGOs, WPS support has included camera trap repeater networks, solar panels and other tech solutions.

Redonda Island
Redonda Island conservation is crucial because it helps preserve a unique ecosystem, home to endemic species and critical seabird nesting sites. Protecting this island aids in maintaining biodiversity and provides valuable data for ecological research and conservation strategies.
Collaborating closely with our partners at Fauna & Flora International, the installation of a long-range camera trap repeater network has proven critical for the conservation and protection efforts on the island.

Yellowstone
Yellowstone National Park, established as the world's first national park, plays a crucial role in conservation by preserving a vast array of unique geothermal features, diverse ecosystems, and rare wildlife such as bison, wolves and grizzly bears. Its protected status has become a global model for ecological preservation, inspiring the creation of protected areas worldwide that safeguard natural habitats and biodiversity.
Support has included donations of camera traps, and our wpsWatch software to help bolster park insights and conservation.

USFWS / Save the Manatees Club
Manatee conservation in South Florida is essential as these creatures face threats from boat collisions and a scarcity of food due to diminishing seagrass beds. Protecting manatees not only safeguards these gentle giants but also helps preserve the health and diversity of the region's marine ecosystems.
WPS has donated virtual reality headsets to organizations involved in the protection of these animals, which highlights the importance of their conservation.

Mongena Safari Lodge VR
Wildlife protection in Africa is crucial for maintaining biodiversity, which supports ecosystem stability and resilience against environmental changes. Additionally, it is vital for tourism, which is a significant source of revenue and jobs in many African countries, promoting economic development and conservation efforts.
WPS has deployed virtual reality experiences for guests staying at Mongena Safari Lodge to deepen their connection to the wild world.

Butterfly Pavilion VR
Invertebrates are crucial to humanity as they constitute about 97% of all species on Earth, forming the backbone of many ecosystems. They also play a vital role in agriculture; every third bite of food humans consume is made possible by the pollination services provided by invertebrate species like bees.
In partnership with the Butterfly Pavilion, WPS has deployed VR experience stations throughout their invertebrate-focused zoo, including content with monarchs, bees + elephants, tarantulas, and cuttlefish.

Baja Sur VR Education
Conservation efforts in Mexico's Baja Peninsula are crucial for protecting the marine biodiversity, especially the breeding grounds of migrating gray whales. Helping local fishermen transition into eco-tourism operators promotes sustainable economic development while enhancing environmental stewardship and community engagement in preserving critical habitats.
In collaboration with Nakawe Project, Virtual Reality headsets have been used to promote sustainable ecotourism development and education in the region.

Wild Animal Sanctuary VR
Wild animal sanctuaries provide safe havens for animals rescued from abusive, illegal, or inadequate conditions, allowing them to live out their lives in environments that prioritize their well-being and natural behaviors. They also play a crucial role in education and conservation efforts, helping to raise awareness about wildlife issues and promote species preservation.
WPS has deployed virtual reality stations to help connect guests to the larger world of animals in the wild in their natural habitats.

Katie Adamson Conservation Fund
Our partners at The Katie Adamson Conservation Fund (KACF) are dedicated to protecting endangered species and fostering cultural compassion. They operate globally in over 24 countries, implementing a multifaceted approach to conservation through education, community engagement, and direct action projects.
WPS has worked across various disciplines and projects to promote wildlife conservation using virtual reality stations with KACF to reach many thousands of conservationists.
