Monkey Food Fight | Wildlife in 360 VR

Part of a troop of vervet monkeys ventures into the “back of house” of a tourist facility to harvest fallen fruit. A young male cannot help but flash his bright blue scrotum. This is to help convince the others that he has dominance. Ultimately, it is believed to be a means of impressing females to mate with him. Studies have shown that those who shine brightest attract the most females. The color is not a pigment, but rather it is caused by the refraction of light (as with rainbows) by highly organized cells on the outside of the scrotum. So, the females are using the brightness as an indicator of overall genetic quality.

Filmed in 5K 360.
